Hello TT Faculty members,
The parties engaged in a mediated bargaining session assisted by Federal Mediator Brittney Howard on March 26, 2019. This session did not result in any significant progress toward an agreement on a successor to our 2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement. At this time, no future sessions are planned. The fact-finding hearing is scheduled for April 22nd before Mr. Barton Bixenstine. At that hearing, Mr. Bixenstine will consider the evidence presented by both parties and issue a report outlining his non-binding proposal for a fair settlement on the outstanding issues. AAUP-KSU will then conduct a vote of our dues paying membership on whether or not to accept the fact-finder’s report. At the same time, the Board of Trustees will vote on the fact-finder’s report.
We’ve been fielding questions from Faculty about the potential timing of a strike should AAUP-KSU leadership determine that one is necessary. AAUP-KSU very much hopes that both parties will be able to accept the fact-finder’s report, which would then (along with the previously agreed upon provisions) become the basis of the new contract. However, should either party reject the fact-finder’s report, AAUP-KSU will likely notify the State Employee Relations Board (SERB) of our intent to strike starting the first or second week of the Fall semester. In that event, Faculty would be notified of the specific start date for a strike at the same time we submit the notification to SERB and the University. (See Frequently Asked Questions about Strike Authorization and What Happens During a Strike?)
Should it be necessary to call a strike, AAUP-KSU recommends that Faculty standing for reappointment, tenure, or promotion next year, who wish to participate in the strike, finalize and submit their RTP files prior to the date the strike is scheduled.
